How to grow a superfood in five days on your deck

Pea Shoots – Did you know that pea shoots have 7 times more vitamins than blueberries, 8 times more folic acid than bean sprouts and 4 times more vitamin A than tomatoes…?

Pea shoots are easy to grow and add high nutritional value to any meal. They are low in calories and a good source of vitamin C, folate, enzymes and fibre. They help alkaline your body and support your immune systems.

They can be grown in a container on your deck, making them perfect for small spaces.

You will need a container that is at least 10cm deep with holes in the bottom, a poly tray from your local supermarket or veg store is great. You can punch some holes in the bottom and place your organic potting mix in and water. Plant your seeds by pushing down into the soil in rows 2cm apart and about a thumb nail between each pea. Push the soil back over your peas and wait, making sure the soil doesn’t dry out. Within a few days, the peas will sprout and you can cut them when they are at your desired length.

Cut in rows as they will regrow and you get a second helping. Mmm delicious!

Happy Gardening Everyone!
